A 42 year old Kenyan man was hit and killed Thursday evening by an outbound Orange line subway train at the Green Street station in Jamaica Plain, a suburb of Boston.

According to close family sources, Josephat Ng'ang'a Njau , a married father of two from Malden, MA had left early for work in Boston where he commutes by train but did not return home later in the night, leaving them worried. Calls to his cell phone the entire night went unanswered, the family added.

Unfortunately, as they were pondering calling authorities to report a missing person, officers from the Boston police department called Friday morning with the sad news after identifying the body from the accident as that belonging to their loved one. He leaves behind a wife, Gladys Ng'ang'a, and two young daughters, 13 and 7.

He also leaves behind his brother, Joel Njau who moved to Dallas Texas a few years ago from Boston.

Family sources said that information from the police department said that the circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation. However, media reportsciting Boston police indicated that the late Njau got in the right of way of a train when he was struck and killed.
It's not yet clear where the late Kenyan was headed when the accident occurred.

Shocked family and friends are meeting at the late Njau's family residence in Malden for prayers and funeral planning.

Upon hearing the sad news, his brother immidiately flew to Boston to assist in funeral arrangements in the hopes of repatriating the body back to Kenya to its final resting place in Kitale, Rift Valley County.

"This is a very sad development to happen to one of us here. Our condolences go to the family at this very difficult time as we do our best to support them deal with the tragedy. Baba Njoki (Njoki's dad) really loved his family and children very much," said Rev. Dr. Charles Karanja, pastor of the PEFA church in Malden and where the late Njuguna used to worship.

Dr. Karanja, also the President of the Kenyan American Pastors Fellowship Association, was addressing mourners gathered last night for prayers led by Rev. Jeremiah Githere of Lowell.

"At such a time, only the undying Faith in God can help you overcome such a tragedy, just King David used to rely on God to help him overcome difficult situations. As a community let us come together and do anything needed to help and support the family left behind," said pastor Githere.

A memorial service and fundraiser to raise funds has been organized to take place at the PEFA Church (376 Washington St, Malden, MA) on Sunday November 4th at 2pm followed by a fundraiser at 4pm.

The funeral organizing committee is looking to raise at least $20,000 towards sending the remains of the late Kenyan to its final resting place.
