BOSTON--Close to 3,500 members of the Ugandan community from across the globe have converged in Boston for a 3 day annual Ugandan North American Association convention attended by Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, main Opposition leader, Dr. Kizza Bessigye, 70 members of Uganda Parliament, Musicians, religion leaders and business entrepreneurs.
The massive event that started Friday is taking place at the Boston Park Plaza hotel and ends tonight with a gala dinner reception tonight featuring speeches, cultural music entertainment and a fashion show. The event has attracted thousands of Ugandans from many parts of USA, Canada, Europe, Uganda and elsewhere whoi have brought in major business impact in Boston. The Ugandans have paid about $170 a person for event registration, creating roaring business for Uber and cab drivers as they tour the city and patronize entertainment joints in and around downtown Boston. "I am very happy to be in Boston for this great event. I am very excited to see our people organizing such an all inclusive event," said Dr. Bessigye, the opposition leader who billed by many as the world's most imprisoned man due to his political activities while speaking to Ajabu Africa News.
