GATUNDU, Kenya--The national government in Kenya has been urged to provide stipends for persons living with disability.
Daniel Munyambu, a former UK councillor, said many disabled people are disadvantaged because they lack knowledge on their rights. He donated an electric wheelchair to Wainaina Karamba, who got paralysed after an accident in Icaciri village, Gatundu South. "Most buildings do not have ramps, thereby denying the disabled accessibility, yet there is a law that requires all buildings to cater for the disabled," Munyambu said. The constitution provides entitlements for persons with disability that includes access to buildings, education, housing, transport, employment, healthcare and social safety net. He said the policies on how to cater for the disabled are there but they have to be translated into action. | |||||||||
