Kenya intends to use a meeting in Monaco on October 29 to bid to host a global tourism conference in 2018.
Kenya was to host the Skal International World Congress for the first time in October last year in Mombasa but the event was cancelled over insecurity.
The congress is a high-profile meeting attended by over 1,000 delegates, who are key players in the travel and tourism industry.
According to SKAL International Kenya coast president Victor Shitakha, the local delegation to the Monaco meeting will be led by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala.
"We shall attend the 77th SKAL International World Congress in Monaco so that we can bid to host the congress in 2018," he said.
Speaking to the Nation on Wednesday, Mr Shitakha said Kenya will be competing against Peru.
"We hope delegates from African countries, Asia and Europe will support us," he explained.
The hotelier said Kenya is banking on the success of hosting global conferences such as the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Nairobi last year, the World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference and the recent Tokyo International Conference for Africa's Development meeting.
