It's been 14 years since Uganda's Seby Ntege left his musical group, Nile Beat Artists, for United Kingdom, where he has since established himself as a solo artist and a traditional music and dance trainer. The Ugandan world music artist is back in a homecoming show slated tonight (Wednesday) at Cayenne Restaurant and Lounge in Bukoto, Kampala. In the UK, Ntege is among the most accomplished new musical exports and ambassadors of traditional Ugandan music. He has performed at festivals in the UK, Europe and Africa. Ntege has worked with celebrated artists including Gambian Female kora virtuoso, Sona Jobarteh, Singers John Raymond and Ben Avison. Ntege is a master of variety of traditional music instruments including akogo (thumb piano), endongo lyre, adungu (harp), percussions and endingidi (one string fiddle). On this, he adds others such as the Kora and guitar. Ntege marries the sound of all these instruments to create a unique sound that cuts across generations. He says his music is mostly influenced by his love for Ugandan traditional music and his life in the United Kingdom. His songs include Komawo, Babirye omulongo, Take me back and Song for papa. Ntege gets inspiration from widely known Ugandan world music star, Geoffrey Oryema. Tonight's show will feature other live music maestros like Maddox Sematimba and Saxophonist Michael Kitanda.Ntege comes along with his band. After tonight's show, he will stage another at Bax in Jinja on December 31. "After all these years, I have learnt a lot as a musician and a trainer. It is this experience I am going to share with Ugandans," Ntege said during an interview. | |||||||||
