Ajabu Media Celebrates 10 Years Anniversary & Awards in a Colorful, Fun Filled Ceremony

LOWELL, MASS.,__There was joy and excitement as many members of different African immigrant communities in New England and from as far away as Washington DC, Maryland, New York gathered Sunday evening to mark 10 years of continuous networking and media services to the hard to reach sons and daughters of Africa.

The auspicious event took place at the Holy Ghost Society hall in Lowell graced by the presence of Kenya's Ambassador to the US, H.E Robinson Njeru Githae, Dr. Rev. Charles Karanja, president of the Kenyan American Pastors' Fellowship Association (KAPF), newly retired founder of the first Kenyan community church in USA, Cannon Peter Gachathi and his wife Nellie Gachathi.Other top guests included Bishop John Muthee of the Jesus Celebration Center Lowell, Rev. John Wachira of the Christ is The Answer church in N. Chelmsford, Rev. Johnson Irungu and his wife, Cecilia Irungu, of the Church of All Nations in North Reading and Rev. Marios Njuki who in on a US mission tour from his Liberty church based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Fast rising gospel musician, Evangelist Lucy Wangeci "Wa Chineke"(God's daughter) led the guests in an inspirational praise & worship session from her two top CDs titled Chineke.

Excitement rent the air when beauty models from different African immigrant communities in New England and beyond as well as independent models took to the runway to show case a new Ajabu Africa Fashion line.

Conducted by Ms. Mercy Amo from the Ghanaian Community of Worcester and co-founder of the Miss Africa New England (MANE) beauty pageant, the fashion show was so inspiring that is prompted several African diaspora children in the crowd to step onto the runway to take part as they showcased their Wakanda inspired outfits.

MANE Models walking down the Ajabu Media Fashion show runway included the reigning Miss. Mali of Lowell, and Miss. Ghana both from Lowell.

Independent models included Kenya's Mary Mwaura of Lowell who just won award for her mental health awareness platform as a Communications Ambassador during the just concluded a Miss. Kenya USA pageant held last month in Washington DC, and Evalyn Otoa of Germantown Maryland, the 2016 Miss Uganda USA winner.

Jestine Macharia, a 10 year old Kenyan kid from Everett received a standing ovation with her confidence when she strutted the fashion runway in style, in turn inspiring another 6 year old Kenya boy to follow suit joining the masters of ceremonies and award recipient, Leonard Tishenge of Congo DRC the only two male models.

During the event several African diaspora community members received awards for their outstanding effort far and above the call of duty towards empowering the community in different areas of service.

Among the recipients nominated and voted for by Ajabu Africa readers and editorial board included the Ambassador Githae for his effort to untangle the diplomatic red take to ensure direct flights from Kenya to New York were approved by the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) and now are scheduled to start in October this year, Venerable Peter Gachathi for his role in establishing the first Kenyan church in USA back in 1995.

Dr. Michael Kisembo, professor of Accounting and Finance at Suffolk University in Boston and proprietor of Multi- Professionals Consultant, a tax preparation firm based in Waltham received the Entrepreneur of the year Award for his services that reach many in the African diaspora including Kenyans, Ugandans, Haitians, and many more.

In his speech, Ambassador Githae urged the Kenyan and African community members to patronize Diaspora networking websites with paid advertisements instead of seeking free services that tend to overburden them hence reduce their ability to serve the community with the much needed information awareness for important and sometimes lifesaving news services.

The envoy thanked Ajabu Media for the service of writing articles and advertisements that
created strong networking for the community leading to solutions to many social problems.

"Harrison recently worked with the embassy and local and helped find relatives of several Kenyans who died in USA without the knowledge of their kin back home or the local Kenyan diaspora community. That was very commendable and we should all support this kind of work," he said.

During the event, Clement Kariuki Nganga (Wamaitu), a financial consultant from Kenya and owner of Uadilifu Properties Limited as well as a part- time lecturer of Entrepreneurship and strategic studies at the University of Nairobi, advised Kenyans in the diaspora to do an effective due diligence with credible layers on investment properties they are looking to purchase back home to avoid painful losses experienced by many.

"If you want to be a serious and successful entrepreneur, there are five entrepreneurial orientations that you need to have; Innovativeness, pro-activeness, risk management, competition, and autonomy," said Ng'ang'a. He added that he will hold more informational sessions to Kenyans in various parts of the Diaspora in the month of August before returning to Kenya.

He revealed that his company has entered into a collaborative effort with Ajabu Ventures to bring Kenyans in the diaspora well researched and vetted properties for sale at affordable an flexible terms in a prime area within the suburbs of Nairobi earmarked for development of a village comprising mostly Kenyans and other nationalities in the Diaspora.

"We are going to provide clients with a pleasant and convenient service to purchase plots to develop the Kitengela Diaspora Village with people who have same interests. Customers who purchase the valid properties will collect their titles at the Ajabu Media office in Woburn as the land is already subdivided and title ready for transfer. This will provide great access and accountability to ensure no one loses their investments," he said.


Nairobi based Financial consultant and entrepreneur, Clement Kariuki Ng'ang'a.

Harrison Maina, founder of Ajabu Media recounted how the company was established in 2006 as EA United before changing name to Ajabu Media Communications in 2007 in order to provide the previously disjointed community with a platform to advertise social events, church service locations and business advertisements that had the effect of helping many members of the community get interconnected and hence played a great role at developing the community.

"I would like to thank all our readers, business partners, advertisers and well-wishers for their support and purchase of various Ajabu Venture services including advertisements, marketing promotions, website and marketing materials development as they have helped the company weather some difficult moments to reach the 10 year milestone."

He also thanked Ambassador Githae and pastors present for attending the event as a testament for the important role the network played serving the community to keep them informed on real issues around them.

Guests were treated to a delicious meal of barbecued goat meat, Ugali, pilaf rice and "Kachumbali" spices courtesy of Ninah's Kitchen.

The event ended with a cake cutting celebration to mark the 10 years anniversary with Rev. John Wachira leading in closing prayers.

It was sponsored by a committee of friends and several African business entrepreneurs including Multi-Professional Consultants of Waltham, MA, Uadilifu Properties of Nairobi, Kenya, Mwanza Financial of Woburn MA, Sarah Mwangi , a real estate agent with Aikins Properties of Worcester, MA, Maracana Soccer Academi of Minneapolis, MN, Empire Cleaners of and Ninah's Kitchen of Melrose, MA as well as the Christ Jubilee International Church of Lowell.

Earlier during the day, Ambassador Githae attended a Sunday service at the Christ is The Answer church where he challenged Kenyans to form a habit of purchasing life and disability insurance to protect against unforeseen circumstances that tend to turn disastrous for affected families and the community at large if not put in place.
