The United States of America and the World at large mourns the passing of a great hero, the last elected president from the Greatest Generation. The Late president George Herbert Walker Bush taught the nation through his many years of service across many levels of government that toughness is about a leader's character, integrity and moral fiber. His life provided the nation with "a thousand points of light", a mantra he popularized and rode during his 1988 Presidential campaign and a steady hand in turbulent times as president. In honor of the late President, Wednesday December 5th has been declared a National Day of Mourning which means all Federal offices including the largest employer, the USPS will be closed. In evidence, that the former president touched many ordinary Americans, a retired and reknowned High School English teacher in Central Massachussetts, Ms. Denise Martinelli whose father was a World War II Veteran as was the late President Bush summed it perfectly;"he surely set an example for all people, as a patriot, family man and humanitarian. He showed us that strength might sometimes mean silence. He was truly a wonderful person." There will be a funeral service at the Washington National Cathedral at 11 AM on Wednesday where "Bush 41" will be eulogized by his son "Bush 43" among others. The late president will then be flown to St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas where he will lie in repose from 7:45 p.m to 7:00 a.m followed by a second memorial service at 11:00 a.m on Thursday ( All times Eastern). On Thursday afternoon, a funeral train will transport the former President to his final resting place at Texas A &M University at College Station, the site of the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library where he will be laid to rest next to his wife Barbara who preceded him in April as well as his late daughter Pauline who passed away in 1953 aged 3. | |||||||||
