Mary Nyambura Kihara, wife to pastor Peter Maina of the PEFA church in Malden near Boston has passed away. The late Nyambura (64) passed away peaceful at home shortly after midnight on Saturday after a one year battle with stage 4 bone cancer, revealed the senior pastor of the church, Rev. Dr. Charles Karaja to shocked parishioners during a Sunday morning service at the church located near the Oak Grove train station. According to pastor Karanja, the late pastor Maina's wife passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family. She leaves behind her husband and four children, two boys and two girls. One of her sons lives with the family in Medford, MA while the rest are back in Kenya. "It's very difficult for the pastor and family right now. Our prayers go out to the whole family and we wish them acceptance and solace," he told a stunned congregation.
Following the unexpected death, a committee of church members and friends was organized to coordinate the mourning and funeral planning. However, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, only a few church members were allowed to visit the family's home for condolences and initial planning, while other committee members and friends are holding meetings on Zoom every day starting from 7pm to 8.30pm. The pastor pleaded with the entire Kenyan community in Boston and friends to come to the aid of the late pastor Maina's wife. According to the funeral planning committee, the family wishes to repatriate the body back to Kenya for burial at the family's farm in Kangema, Kenya. Speaking to Ajabu Media via phone interview, pastor Maina said that his wife had been fighting bone cancer for about 4 years since she was diagnosed. He said that the family hails from Kikuyu town, Kiambu County but the late Nyambura will be laid to rest at the family's ancestral home in Kangema, Murang'a County.
"The whole world is undergoing a tremendously difficult suffering at this time made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic. There are a lot of deaths and suffering going on. We are saddened for Pastor Maina's family to go through his difficult moment of losing their mother and wife but we will do our best to be there for them. Please help us support them with prayers and funds for the funeral," urged Winfred Mwangi (Mama Diana) while speaking during the Sunday service.
