A Senate staff accused of plotting to bomb Parliament has been linked to two attacks in Nairobi in which four police officers were killed.
The Anti Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) on Monday told a Nairobi court that Mr Ali Abdulmajid Ahmed has links to masterminds of the attacks on Pangani and Roysambu.
Consequently, the prosecution sought court permission to hold Mr Ahmed, who has been in custody since April 26, 2015, for 10 more days for further interrogation.
The court had initially granted police 10 days, which lapsed on May 7, to wrap up investigations into the alleged Parliament bombing plot.
PANGANI BLAST
Yesterday, ATPU investigator Jackson Chacha said: "So far it has been established that the suspect was a close associate of Ahmed Ali who was involved in the Pangani Police Station explosion where two police officers were killed."
"It has also been established that the respondent (Mr Ahmed) was in communication with Abdul Rahaman and Adam Hillow who were involved in a terrorist attack at Roysambu in December 2010 where two hand grenades were hurled at two traffic police officers, killing them instantly."
Mr Chacha said the nature of investigations being carried out necessitate the suspect's continued detention as he may "interfere and jeopardise the case."
SUSPECT'S CONTACTS
According to police, the suspect has also been involved with Martha Edward, a terrorist who was arrested in Majengo on July 19, 2014.
The suspect's contacts, police said, were traced through analysis of his call data records.
"From the data so far analysed, the suspect made calls to persons who are believed to be his associates, some of whom are within the country," the investigator added in his affidavit.
Resident Magistrate Eddah Agade set a mention for May 13 for the defence to respond to the new request.
