President of Burundi, General Évariste Ndayishimiye has decided to sack all married government officials involved in extra-marital affairs.
The decision, according to the 53-year-old army general with 6 children ‘is in the right direction to moralise society’.
Burundi President General Évariste Ndayishimiye insists ministers and other government officials who are married should stick to one woman–their wife.
He said it is abominable for such public officials to have concubines now popularly known as side chicks, and anyone caught engaging in this vices will be fired.
The Minister for Internal Security Gervais Ndirakobuca who announced the presidential decree, copied to all ministries explained that with immediate effect, all married government officials with illegal unions outside their marriages shall be sacked.
This step is to honor late Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza who first announced a plan in May 2017 to moralise Burundi.

The ‘moralise society’ plan, is a directive by incumbent president to honor late Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza.
In May 2017, President Nkurunziza, a born-again Christian, announced his great plan to moralise society.
In fulfilment of the plan, he passed a law requiring couples within the country to get married by December 2017 or face legal consequences.
Nkurunziza justified that, there was a population explosion in the country caused by men dating many girls simultaneously and impregnating them.
‘We want Burundians to understand that everyone is responsible for his life, we want order in this country’, then-Interior ministry spokesman Terence Ntahiraja told AFP.
Unfortunately, Nkurunziza died in 2020, leading to military takeover. General Évariste Ndayishimiye became the next president after general elections.
