BOSTON__Wildly popular Kenyan Kikuyu secular artiste Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu popularly known as Samidoh, arrived in Boston Wednesday evening to a rousing welcome by a group of fans eager to see him perform on the east coat leg of his month long US tour that began mid last month. Seemingly excited and in high spirits, Samidoh received a bunch of flowers from 7 year old Nicholas Lapolla of Revere MA. The young Lapolla, who dreams of becoming a cop when he grows up, donned a full police uniform in respect to Samidoh’s career as a cop in Kenya while away from the music scene. The “junior cop” to be then completed the welcome at Logan airport with a stiff salute, to which the senor cop acknowledged with his own salute. With an entourage of 4 band members and promoters from Jabali Entertainment, Samidoh said he was excited to arrive in the city of Boston for a 2 day show that will take him to Worcester on Friday then head to Lowell on Saturday. Upon arrival, Samidoh was shocked at how cold the weather in Boston can be at this time of the year., especially as he was coming from warmer regions of Kenyan and southern US states for his initial leg of the tour. Since mid November, the mugithi star performed at shows in Dallas, Houston, Minneapolis, NJ Newark, Huston, Birmingham, Kansas City, Baltimore, and Atlanta.
As the mercury dropped further to about 36 degrees in the late evening, the superstar was forced to quickly request warm gloves, a heavier jacket and a hat. He then dashed into a car where he huddled firmly for the ride to Worcester. “Am feeling cold!,” flatly lamented the famed musician when asked how his was feeling upon arrival to the bean town by Ajabu Africa News. However, the cold New England weather did not dampen Samidoh’s excitement with his upcoming performances in the famed, historical city where Kenyans rule the Boston marathon course. He said he looked forward to a great time in Boston with fans from the Kenyan community and friends. He urged them to come out in large numbers like those experienced in the other southern cities. “I am here. Am ready for the event. Vaa viatu za rubber juu ya kuslide slide. Mkuje tufiriride mpaka asubuhi,” (Put on your dancing shoes then come we dance all night) he told his fans during an interview with Ajabu Africa News. He said he was so happy and thankful for the large the turn up for his shows during the diaspora tour. Samidoh, is one of the leading Kenyan music artistes specializing in the Kikuyu mugithi genre in Kenya. He has done over dozens of songs under his own name and dozens more in collaboration with other top Kikuyu musicians such as Joyce Wamama, Ka-White and many more. We are so happy to have Samidoh come for the first ever organized diaspora tour for any Kenyan musician. It has been very successful so far and we hope the remaining part of the tour in Boston, Oakland California and Seattle in the next few weeks will be a big hit,” Albert Musasia, co-founder of Jabali Entertainment told Ajabu Africa News during a phone interview. Musasia said that Jabali Entertainment specializes in Kenyan cultural genre of music from different parts of Kenya in order to bring the Kenyan culture to many Kenyan youth born in USA but have no strong connections with their roots. “We want those Kenyans born in America or those who came at an early age when they did not have knowledge of their culture to learn some of it from cultural musicians like Samidoh.
He added that following the big success of the Samidoh tour, other Kenyan musicians have reached pout to him and talk are ongoing to bring them for a similar diaspora your. “The success we have experienced with Samidoh’s tour has been beyond our expectations. We are now planning to bring Prince Ida early next year. Samidoh will come back in the summer as well. Many other artistes, including gospel artistes also want us to organize similar tours for them,” he added. After Boston, Samidoh will head to the West coast cities of Oakland California and Seattle Washington. A final “Kwaheri” party is still being worked on to take place either in Dallas or Seattle Houston on 19th December. The show in Worcester on Friday kicks off at 7pm ata venue on 7 Salisbury st. The Lowell show begins at 9pm Saturday at the a hall on 41 Broadway st. “We are so ready for Samidoh show in Worcester. This is big,” said Eliud Mathu of Jomo transportation at Logan airport to shuttle the star to Worcester. Advance tickets selling on EventBrite to both shows are going for $50 a person. “We encourage fans to reserve their tickets online. However, if you see a message on Eventbrite that ticket sales have closed, don’t panic. You can still get tickets via Cashapp Zelle and at the door,” added Musasia the promoter. Both shows are standing style only. However, there will be special seating service at the Lowell show for parties of 10, 8 and 1, each going for $1,000, $860 and $80 respectively.
