Mohamed Salah scored the decisive spot-kick as record seven-time champions Egypt beat the Ivory Coast 5-4 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in Douala on Wednesday to reach the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals. The Liverpool talisman kept his nerve to score Egypt's winning penalty against the Ivory Coast and keep the Pharaohs' dream of an eighth Africa Cup of Nations triumph alive. The last-16 meeting between two titans of African football, with Premier League talent on both sides, promised much but was short on goals on a poor pitch in Douala. African giants gracious ahead of next round The traditional giants cemented their status as powerhouses by securing slots in the last eight of the continental showpiece. With reigning champions Algeria already out of contention, Africa is preparing to crown a new king. The eight quarter-finalists of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) are now known: Cameroon, Gambia, Tunisia, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Morocco and Equatorial Guinea.
