Female leaders have strongly condemned politicians who allegedly insulted former First lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta, following her remarks a few days ago.
Mama Ngina had called on Kenyans to listen and follow President Uhuru Kenyatta's direction on his succession.
She said that the Uhuru and his deputy were in good terms, but Ruto disrespected the President.
"He (President Uhuru) didn’t have a problem (with DP Ruto), but if your deputy shows you disrespect, would you stick there? You will move on," Mama Ngina said.
The group defended the First lady’s remarks cautioning leaders against attacking her.
Maendeleo ya Wanawake National Chairperson Rahab Muiu said that it was immoral and unacceptable.
“It is disheartening to talk like this. As women and grandmothers, we are tired. It can't be business as usual when you insult a mother whom Maendeleo ya Wanawake visited in 1960 in Kapenguria prison with her husband for this nation...,” she said.
“Years later she is being abused by the same nation! We have demonstrated that we are shameless and lack discipline.”
Muia urged the President to take stern action against those who allegedly insulted Mama Ngina Kenyatta.
"Stop everything else your Excellency and act. You have been fighting gender based violence with us," Muiu said.
On Thursday, Nandi County Senator Samson told the first lady to keep off politics.
The senator insisted that what she should have done as the former First Lady is to preach unity and love
“I wish she would keep off politics. If she decides to play politics when the field becomes crowded, stay in the firing line,” Cherargei said.
Uasin Gishu Women Representative Gladys Boss Shollei questioned the first lady’s remarks.
"She seemed to be defending the President and said that people who talk badly are not raised well. I think she needs to be reminded that President Uhuru Kenyatta recently was calling Raila Odinga all sorts of names," she said.
"So to try and say that the President is the perfect person and well brought up a child that doesn't say anything negative, we just need to look at the way he behaved at the Jubilee meeting," she added.
Cosmo Choy begs for forgivenessThe Abagusii community leader in the US Ombori Monari, alias Cosmo Choy, has been forced to issue a public apology to the family of President Uhuru Kenyatta for his recent abusive remarks against Mama Ngina Kenyatta. In a post on his Facebook page, Choy who is an ally to Deputy President William Ruto, now claims he did not mean to insult Kenyatta’s matriarch stating that it is just politics. He alleges that he was defending DP Ruto, whom he claims to have been made a topic of discussion in a recent political forum. “I am here to apologize to the Kenyatta Family, Mama Ngina Kenyatta and President Uhuru Kenyatta. I am sorry for the remarks that I made a few days ago. I didn’t mean it. Mama aliingia siasa na akaongea juu ya Ruto na mnajua napenda Ruto lakini siasa ni mbaya.” “I do apologise. Pole sana kwa familia, pole sana mama we ni mama wetu. It is something sweet to have a mum alive, I lost my mom and I will never see her again so pole sana. We are human beings and we make mistakes and we forgive each other,” he said in a video posted on his Facebook page. The apology comes as backlash over his unprintable spat intensifies.
