Following rampant cases of protesters stripping during demos, Uganda police claim they have intelligence that Opposition leader Kizza Besigye is recruiting prostitutes whom he pays to strip whenever cops try to arrest them.
Once they have intentionally undressed, they accuse anti-riot police of sexual harassment!
"Their aim is to tarnish the image of our police officers," Andrew Kaweesi, a police boss said. The police suspect that Besigye and the Opposition are not only planning to boycott but also disrupt the 2016 elections, should government reject their electoral reforms proposals. Some claim, without the reforms, Museveni has already won and see no need to participate!
But look, in a country where we have nude chronicles every other day, police need to get used to it. We are used to waking up to headlines of Ugandans, especially celebrities, in their birthday suits splashed in tabloids. At one point, even grandmas in sleepy villages had resorted to stripping to protect their land from being grabbed by so-called "private developers".
In one recent incident, police claim to have foiled a plot in which aging prostitutes had been paid Sh700 each to storm Parliament and embarrass police. Allegedly, the senior prostitutes had struck a weird deal with the Opposition. They were to dress up in loose- fitting clothes that would be easily whipped off when manhandled during the 2016 electoral reform protest that was to take place outside Parliament.
According to the plan, just when the anti-riot cops descended on them, they would drop their clothes and start screaming that they had been stripped. A female activist by the name Ingrid Turinawe was accused of being the co-ordinator of the protest that was foiled by police.
She had done a dry run early that week and was arrested at Parliament when she tried to join Opposition leaders in protesting the electoral reforms. True to form, immediately the police made as if to grab her, her dress fell off - and she began wailing.
Disturbing sight
The police at the scene were very shocked as they were taken aback at how fast her dress fell off. I guess if she had a toned model’s body they would have been more forgiving, but this is a body that had been ravaged by numerous births -a disturbing sight. Of course she was quickly dressed and tossed into the patrol vehicle and locked up in jail pending a hearing and bail.
Meanwhile, when Ingrid was booked, they found in her possession hi-tech gadgets that included a pen with a voice recorder, and a watch that could record both audio and video. She also had thousands of shillings, which police alleged was to pay the senior prostitutes.
International attention
I guess the concern of the police is that all those wrinkly bodies will portray the wrong image to the world -that we do not have nubile hot young things in this country! I propose that the instigators of the protests increase the monies to attract a younger population. There are so many jobless young people who are willing to do anything for money. This is a safe way to earn cash. I also propose that they be gender sensitive and include built and toned young males for the female population. I can guarantee this protest will be highly visible and the videos will be shared widely, giving the campaign international attention. Police shall be happy to arrest them in their birthday suits so they can get adequate time to feast their eyes. It shall be a resounding success all round. Just a thought folks. | |||||||||
