South Sudan has been admitted as the newest member of the East African Community. During the 17th EAC Summit in Arusha, Tanzania, the regional Heads of State also resolved to extend the bloc's chairmanship of president John Magufuli by one year. The summit chaired by president of Tanzania John Magufuli was also attended by presidents Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and Rwanda's Paul Kagame. Burundi and South Sudan sent representatives. Burundi's Liberat Mfumukeko was sworn in as the new Secretary General taking over from Richard Sezibera whose 5-year tenure expires in April this year. The EAC Heads of State also launched the international East African E-passport to commence from January 1, 2017. | |||||||||
