A 28 year old Kenyan man is being held in custody in South Korea for murder. According sources, the suspect, who has been residing in the country for eight months, was arrested on Wednesday morning. Police in Gwangju, South Korea said the Kenyan walked into a cyber cafe and started talking to the victim before both left together. A few minutes later, he returned alone and proceeded to rob another male customer of his winter jacket and smartphone, and then fled. The robbery victim reported the matter to police who later visited the cyber cafe where they found the body of an employee in the washroom, with a chopstick and spoon jammed in his mouth. REFUGEE STATUS Efforts by the police to interrogate the suspect have been fruitful since he has remained silent. A day before the incident, the suspect is said to have visited a police station where he expressed his desire to return to Kenya. When police learned that he had previously applied for refugee status, they reportedly turned down his request. The Chairman of Kenyan's in Korea, Benson Kamary, told Nairobi News that the suspect had mental issues and was taken to hospital but ran away only to commit murder. He also confirmed that Kenya Embassy staff in Korea had visited him and he was doing well. | |||||||||
