First Lady Margaret Kenyatta on Wednesday rolled out a new initiative to equip community health facilities across the country. Adopt--a--Ward will see Mrs Kenyatta taking another leading role to renovate and equip health facilities in the counties. The First Lady made the announcement when she handed over medical supplies and equipment worth Sh40 million to Chemolingot Hospital in Tiaty, Baringo County. The new initiative comes as Mrs Kenyatta is preparing to deliver the last four fully kitted mobile clinics under the Beyond Zero drive. So far, she has delivered mobile clinics to 43 counties. The remaining four counties include Tana River, Nandi, Murang'a and Nairobi. The First Lady said she would again be calling on Kenyans and other partners to join her in the new initiative, the same way she had appealed for their support in ensuring the success of the Beyond Zero's campaign. "Providing good quality healthcare must be our collective responsibility," she said. The medical supplies and equipment to the hospital were realised through a joint effort between the Beyond Zero initiative, Project C.U.R.E and Friends of Africa International (FOAI), whose founder member, Bonnie Bishop, accompanied Mrs Kenyatta to Chemolingot. Several other hospitals across the country will receive medical supplies and equipment. Project C.U.R.E distributes donated medical supplies and medical equipment to over 130 nations around the world. The First Lady described the medical supplies and equipment to Chemolingot Hospital as a demonstration of generosity from the US. "Many medical emergencies will now be managed here at Chemolingot Hospital. People need not travel 110 kilometres to get quality health services at Kabarnet Referral Hospital," she said. She said the initiative should inspire county governments to continue investing in health systems and better healthcare for residents. Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi and Health Principal Secretary Nicholas Muraguri were also present at the function. | |||||||||
