A pastor in Kenya faces the death penalty on Monday after the High Court convicted him of murdering a woman said to be his girlfriend four years ago. His co-accused, Mr James Mutunga Muia, was exonerated. High Court Judge Jessi Lesiit on Friday ruled that Paul Ng'ang'a Wanjiru attacked Ms Caroline Chanjira in his car on Ngong Road near Lenana School in Dagoretti. The judge said the injuries inflicted on Ms Chanjira indicated that her assailant had every intention to kill her. The judge also accused him of lying to the court and attempting to flee the scene, leaving Mr Muia to take the blame. Mr Lesiit, however, said there was no clear motive for the murder despite earlier claims that the woman was pregnant with the married pastor's child. "There can only be speculation as to the motive of the attack but this is not an issue since the circumstantial evidence is sufficient," she said. | |||||||||
