Kenya Railways managing director Atantas Maina has blamed parents for student unrest. He said the parents have failed in their duties of guiding and counselling, leading to indiscipline in schools. Maina said parents have been too busy with their personal matters. Maina was speaking at Gataragwa Girls' Secondary School in Kieni West, Nyeri county, during a prize--giving day on Saturday. He was with Britam marketing manager Muthoga Ngera. Area district education officer Peter Kariuki said students are causing chaos to go home, "where they enjoy plenty of food, freedom, entertainment, technology and internet". Kariuki urged schools to introduce technology so they keep students in their institutions. He praised Kieni subcounty students for being disciplined. No school has reported unrest in the area. Principal Grace Karimi said the school aims to raise its mean grade. | |||||||||
