Nine--year--old Chanelle Wangare (pictured) is shaking the world of golf after she was ranked among ten best junior stars in the just ended World junior golf championships in Florida,USA. Wangare who is a pupil at Makini School is ranked eighth overall globally after a superb performance at the championships. In Kenya, she is the first girl under nine years to make it to the top 10 list in international golf. For two days, a determined Chanelle led a group of 102 girls from different countries who had qualified for the tournament before losing crucial points on the last day to see her settle for position eight. Her father David Mwangi who accompanied her says she is a little disappointed by her performance, but generally happy. "She was hoping for a better result, but she is still happy with what she achieved," he said from Florida, adding that: "she hopes to prepare better for the next tournaments as she nears to clinch the most coveted title. She has improved her swing, confidence and silla," said Mwangi. The tournament, one of the largest and well renowned junior golf tournaments, was held at the IMG academy, Florida, from July 30--August 4. Chanelle is expected to train with her American coach for a week before jetting back into the country. | |||||||||
